This Downtown cottage sits on Newport's famous Thames Street at the southern end. There are multiple restaurants, shops and cafes in easy strolling distance, but the house is just outside the busiest part of the street affording a bit more privacy and peace. Located in the famous Fifth Ward this area was originally settled by Newport's Irish families who came to build the mansions and Fort Adams. Many people refer to this area today as Yachting Village. Four short blocks south you'll find local favorite Ash Mart with it's Boar's Head deli and convenience store on one corner and Harvest Market and RI Coffee Guy on the other. Head 3 blocks north into town and you'll run into Cafe Zeldas on the east side of the street and Scales and Shells right across the street on the west.
Decorated in a bright and clean New England style with fresh, neutral paint throughout and simple, comfortable furnishings. The downstairs living area offers a large screen tv next to the kitchen for rainy days or the all important football game or even the news. The rear deck is just off the kitchen for an easy indoor / outdoor flow. The front porch is great for people watching in this bustling Newport neighborhood. Upstairs offers a private space to get away with a TV for streaming movies, a desk, or just to go to a quiet place to read.
Walk to King Park and rent a kayak to explore bustling Newport Harbor. On Wednesday nights in the summer there are free concerts in the pavilion and you can bring a bottle of wine (quietly, don't be too obvious about it) and a beach chair to enjoy. A Mano pizza truck can be found at King Beach at least one day a week if not more and they are FABULOUS! Walk five minutes north along Thames and you're in the middle of the night life, or walk three blocks south to the Irish American Club (IA to the locals) for a gritty local favorite. Parking can be tricky in this neighborhood. Street parking is open to all and because of that there is no parking pass granted to 614 Thames. Street parking is however usually pretty easy to find and the owners have purchased an annual pass for Wellington Resort Parking lot nearby to assist.
You'll be able to walk to almost everything from 614 Thames and if you have bikes you'll likely not use your car at all. Bikes are the best most of transportation but you can also hire pedi-cabs, Uber/Lyft, the city bus and regular taxi service.
